the one where he watches tv

As most of you know, I love watching tv, and movies. This year I was introduced to some new shows, and found old ones again. I only included one mini series in the list, and that was Torchwood, only because it was so epic. I don’t know how they are going to top it. And as you can see by the list, I watch a lot of BBC America. They have some pretty quality shows.

My top ten list of shows I watched in 2009:

  • 10. V
  • 9. Rescue Ink
  • 8. Trauma
  • 7. Skins
  • 6. Being Human
  • 5. The Mentalist
  • 4. Glee
  • 3. Burn Notice
  • 2. Doctor Who Specials
  • 1. Torchwood: Children of Earth
  • Top ten list of movies I’ve watched this year:

  • 10. Drag Me to Hell
  • 9. G.I Joe
  • 8. Gran Torino
  • 7. (500) Days of Summer
  • 6. Transformers 2
  • 5. I Love You Man
  • 4. Iron Man
  • 3. Jennifer’s Body
  • 2. The Hangover
  • 1. Star Trek

I found out today one of my assistant mangers loves Doctor Who, and is watching the series on dvd. I think she’s on season two with David Tennant as the Doctor and Rose as the companion. She was blown away when I said we’re getting a new Doctor soon. She didn’t know. She doesn’t watch BBC America.

the one where he reads

So I’ve been trying to read more. I’ve been on a Victorian London/England kick lately, It all started with a book that I picked up on a whim. Its called “Jack Knife”.It really combined two awesome things; time travel and Jack the Ripper.

I love the subject. Over the fall I read a very interesting book on the subject, titled “Victorian London“. It was a great read, totally jumping right in to the history of day to day lives of Londoners. I lost myself in all the history of that great city.

The next book I read on the subject was called “The Great Train Robbery“. While more fiction, Michael Crichton curved off and went on great tangents of history to try and explain the day to day life of these criminals. Another great read, but I felt like the last two or three chapters when by way to fast for the slow pace of the first 2/3 of the book.

The next one, while not a history, was totally fiction, “Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters“. It was a hard read, because I couldn’t really pictures the characters in my mind. (which is why I still haven’t read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies all the way through.) But still none the less an entertaining read.

Thanks to some gift cards from co-workers, I have made my next purchase; “Dust and Shadow: An Account of the Ripper Killings by Dr. John H. Watson“. I eagerly await this book coming in. Hopefully by this Saturday, It’ll be ready to be picked up at the book store. I can’t wait. The book looks really good.

I’m always on the look out for some good Victorian London books.

the one where he thinks ahead

Now is the time where I make my new years resolutions. I’m going to make them and try to stick to them, this year. This year is all about me i think.

- Using Wii Fit Plus, I want to lower my weight, and my BMI, so I feel better, and most importantly, my Mii gets thinner, and so when I get on the board, it doesn’t say ow. I’m really enjoying the skateboarding on it. I wish, though that it had a free stake down the boardwalk or something. I really really like the bowling, and I have a goal on that; beat a co-workers high score of 245. I broke 200 last night.

- Read more. A co-worker, Jackie, and Heather got me gift cards to Borders Books. I’m going to use them. I have already bought one book online, and I am just waiting for it to come in.

- Keep a cleaner house. It sounds easy when I write it, but I want it to be cleaner this year. That means folding and putting away the laundry when it comes out of the dryer, and not just dumping it on the couch. Course I’ll leave the socks there for Crystal to sort. I’m tired of living out of the couch and hampers.

- Run more. Not everyday, but at least 1 day on the weekends. And when it gets nicer out (ie; not running in the pitch blackness) when Crystal gets home after work, and before supper. I’d like to be able to use the daily mile website more. I wanna run another 5k with Crystal. I had fun with the Gloria Gemma one.

- Eat healthier. While my eating abilities on Thanksgiving are stuff of legend, I think if I can keep it down to two plates, I will have succeeded at it. I think I might buy more salad stuffs. I miss having a salad with supper now that its the dead of winter.

- Post more, and comment more on other peoples blogs. The post more is hard, because I have no internet access outside of walmart.com at work, and when I get home the last thing I want to do is post, because I am afraid that all I will do is bitch about work. Currently, I think I am like an “F” list blogger, I’d like to hit the “D” list sometime. I’d like to post more quality posts as well. You know to work on my writing skills. Sometimes my humour doesn’t translate to well on the internet. I want to work on that as well.

- Get the damn truck an oil change, when its supposed to get one. That shouldn’t be too hard. I just have to take it in on the weekends and hang out in Warwick for an hour or so. Not at a McDonalds.

- Help Crystal save and plan for her half marathon in Vegas this December. That’s going to be a hard one. Hopefully we bonus at work a couple of times this year. That will help, but I can’t just rely on that. I think If I can get out on the road with her, it will help to train her. And encourage her to run more.

- Go out and see more movies this year. Watching them at home is great, but you can’t experience them without being in the theatre.

I think that’s about it. Do you guys out there have any new years resolutions that you want to share? Maybe you can think of some good ones, that I can adopt for my own as well.

the one where he’s awake

Its 8:42am on Sunday, December 27th. Two days after Christmas, and a day after Boxing Day. Today I wasn’t woken up by any animals. I was woken up by my stomach. Finally ready to release all the I had eaten over the last 3 days. But lets not get in to that!

It was a pretty awesome Christmas, or Crimbo if you’re nasty here at Casa McBride, and upstairs at Casa Smith. Everyone did very well in picking out presents for each other. Except for one of mine, but as Crystal put it in her blog, “and that’s his own damned fault.” And, I’ll admit it, it was my fault. We’ll leave it at that.

Like I had excitedly twittered Christmas morning, We had gotten a Wii from the in laws! I was so happy about that. We’ve been playing it most of the weekend. Lemmie tell you, the Boxing on Wii Sports can and will kick your ass. After 3 rounds my arms felt like jello. I’m still a little stiff.

It’s wicked nasty out there today. All the snow is melting because of the rain coming down. I hope it dries out before the temperature drops because if it doesn’t, its gonna be hella icy out there for the morning commute. Which I don’t have to do because they screwed up on my schedule at work. But that’s ok, because I can do all the laundry and take down the tree tomorrow. Thinking about it, we may take the tree down today. its always easier with 2 people.

So I think today will be lazy day. I think the crazy people upstairs wanted to watch District 9 this afternoon/evening, seeing as they went out for supper last night. On movie night of all days. OMG, I know, how could they? Well they did, and we went out to a Chinese buffet, and ate ourselves silly, came home, watched (500) Days of Summer, Doctor Who, and just enjoyed ourselves. Great day in my book. Only have to wait another week for the final special from David Tennant. Goodbye #10, welcome #11!

Alright, I need more coffee. I’m outie 9000 bitches.
